How to use the library
A private place to collect, organize and find visual references. Everything you add is visible only to you.
Add images
Click Add images, drag images onto the page, copy and paste an image, or paste a link to a web page and its main image is added, with the link saved as its source. Some sites, like Instagram, don't allow this. JPEG, PNG, GIF and WebP all work. If an image is already in your library, you'll be asked before it's added twice.
Review the suggested tags
Right after an image is added, it's tagged: yellow lines slide across it while that happens, and progress shows at the bottom left. Then tags are suggested: artist(s), year, colors, materials, type of work, a title and notes. Images with suggestions waiting have a yellow layer.
Open the image and choose Accept all, Dismiss, or click single suggestions. Nothing is added to your tags until you accept, and the artist and year are only suggested when the work is recognised.
You can also add your own tags at any time, with or without suggestions: open an image, click into any field, type a tag and press Enter. Tags you've used before come up as you type, so spellings stay consistent. Click the × on a tag to remove it.
Each month a set number of images get tagged automatically (your count is on the Account page). Once they're used up you can keep adding images: they just aren't tagged for you. They get a small dark dot, their main colours are filled in, and you add the rest of the tags yourself. When the new month starts you'll be offered Tag waiting images; you can also open one and choose Tag it now.
Suggestions fit your work better once you've stated your practice: Account → Your practice. They also get more accurate as you go: the tags you keep, remove or add yourself are taken into account, and when the same kind of tag keeps turning up under Other, you may be offered a new field for it.
Add your projects
At the top of an image's details, add the Project you used it in. Projects show as black tags so they stand out, and you add them yourself: they're never suggested. Search for a project's name to see all of its images.
Find things again
- Start typing to search titles, notes, sources and tags.
- Pick a tag from the list to filter. Pick more to narrow down.
- The sort button switches between newest, oldest, needs review and not tagged (images that weren't tagged automatically; searching for "untagged" finds them too).
- Click the clip to shuffle your library, and S M L XL to change the thumbnail size. You can also hold Option (Alt) and scroll or pinch to make them bigger or smaller.
Look closer and add notes
Click an image to view it large. Use ← → or click the left or right half of the image to move between images. Hide details gives the image the whole screen.
In the details you can edit tags, notes and the source; changes save automatically. Edit tag fields lets you add fields of your own.
Work with many images at once
Press and hold an image to start selecting, then drag across others, or choose Select all (or press ⌘ A, Ctrl A on Windows). You can add a tag to all of them, accept their suggestions, download them (a zip with a list of tags), or delete them (the delete key works too: press it twice).
Match tags copies tags from another image: click it, then the image to match, and choose which of its fields to add.
Export PDF lays the selected images out as they appear in your library, at the size you choose, with titles, tags, notes or sources as captions if you like. Your browser's print window opens: choose Save as PDF.
On your phone
Open the site in Safari, tap Share → Add to Home Screen, and it opens like an app. Add picks images from your photo library.
Studios
If you're part of a studio, it has a library shared by everyone in it, beside your own. The button next to the sort button (at the start of the search on your phone) switches between your library and the studio's. Everyone in the studio can add images and edit their tags; you can delete the images you added, and the studio's admins can delete any. Each image shows who added it, and searching for someone's name finds what they added.
To share images from your own library, select them and choose Copy to and the studio's name (it works the other way too). The copy belongs to the studio; yours stays as it is. The studio can't see your own library.
Suggestions in the studio's library follow the studio's tag fields and practice, which its admins set from the Account page. The studio shares one tagging allowance a month.
